NexusMods CEO digs into the dynamics of video game modding

And now for something different: a conversation about mods.

Mods are a tricky topic to cover on Game Developer—on the one hand, they’re a jumping off point for many industry professionals, who learn the basics of development by creating custom levels or assets for their favorite games. On the other hand, it’s a non-commercial element of the game industry that risks violating a games’ terms of service.

Curating a platform for modders is tricky business, as NexusMods CEO Victor Folmann well knows. Now he wants to make the platform more than a file-hosting business. If he has his way, it’ll one day be a bona fide user-generated content (UGC) platform.
