The Dota 2 Esports World Cup has just ended, and with 157 total maps played throughout the event, I feel like we have a pretty good idea of which heroes are currently dominating the meta. In this article, I’ll go over the best Dota 2 heroes for each role at EWC 2026, factoring in their pickrate and winrate.
Position 1: Shadow Fiend

- Win Rate: 62.16%
Shadow Fiend has looked like a very reliable carry in the Dota 2 Esports World Cup, boasting a very strong 62.16% win rate. But, if you were wondering why we didn’t see this fella much in the playoffs, the answer is simple: he was banned 100 times across 157 maps throughout the event.
Right now, these ranged turret carries are very popular in the meta, and Shadow Fiend of course meets that criteria. He also lanes very well against the tanky offlaners we’re seeing in this patch, giving him an easy entry to the game.
Many of the best Dota 2 carries like Satanic, miCKe, and Nightfall have been buying Kaya and Yasha, which gives Shadow Fiend much-needed stats and the option to join fights in the mid-game since his Shadow Razes deal a crap ton of damage with the spell amp.
He lanes well, takes objectives, and is solid in all three stages of the game – Shadow Fiend is just the complete package at the moment.

Position 2: Ember Spirit

There are a lot of potent mid-laners at the moment, and it was hard to pick one. However, if we’re going based on stats and game impact, I’ll hand it over to Ember Spirit.
Spirit Vessel is a pretty trendy item right now, and Ember Spirit is probably one of the best mid-lane carriers for it available.
Offlane players have also started getting greedier, and they typically need a mid-laner who can make plays around the map. Ember Spirit is extremely reliable and doesn’t even need that much farm to find impact. He can still deal solid damage and find impact in fights even if he’s broke.
We’ve seen some Ember Spirit players struggle in lane, and all they did was buy an early BKB with barely any damage items and they still put in a lot of work.
And if Ember Spirit does make it to the late game with a decent amount of farm, there’s really no question about his impact. With Kaya, Shiva’s Guard, and maybe an Aghanim’s Scepter if you can afford it, you’re dealing so much damage in fights, it’s insane.

Position 3: Dark Seer

If we’re talking numbers, Dark Seer is the most successful offlaner at the Esports World Cup by quite a margin. I mean, you really don’t see a 65% win rate every day.
What makes him a very reliable hero right now is the Helm of the Dominator item. It’s a very good pickup for offlaners, but it is way more valuable on Dark Seer than most others. He can pretty much get his own little Pokemon, apply Ion Shell onto it, and use it to farm out the wazoo.
Again, ranged carries have been pretty popular, making it hard for offlaners to have a good laning stage. However, Dark Seer can cheat his way out of it by manipulating waves like cutting or stealing – Ion Shell and Surge make this so much easier.
With games going late in the meta, Dark Seer can also find lots of value with Ion Shell by just split pushing lanes. Of course, he’ll still have his Helm Dom creep that can help him manage waves very well for map control. This is why we’ve seen lots of Dark Seer players top the net worth charts.
Dark Seer can then buy any item his team needs, whether it’s team-oriented ones like Lotus Orb or ones that allow him to scale like Shiva’s Guard or even Scythe of Vyse. He’s definitely one of the stronger late-game offlane heroes that can also carry a game, especially if the enemy carry makes for a good Wall illusion.

Position 4: Keeper of the Light

Keeper of the Light is another highly contested hero at the Esports World Cup, getting picked or banned in almost 70% of matches at the event. Almost everyone is buying Holy Locket on this hero, and his solid 60% win rate shows that it’s working.
KotL is really good at both skirmishing or split pushing depending on the game state. When there’s a lot of fighting, his heals from Illuminate and mana from Chakra Magic help keep the team healthy in drawn-out fights. If given the opportunity, he can help the team snowball a game out of control. He also doesn’t mind slow games, as he can offer a lot on the map by shoving lanes for map control.
It also helps that a lot of the popular offlaners right now are pretty good at clearing jungle stacks. With KotL being one of the best stacking heroes in the entire game, he can propel his teammates to a very strong start or recovery in the early game. With the removal of Dota 2 facets, KotL also got free movement speed from his innate ability.
You can also buy anything on this hero. You can support the team with Force Staff, Glimmer Cape, or Lotus Orb, or you can even go for an early Aghanim’s Scepter for more teamfight impact.

Position 5: Treant Protector

Treant Protector is probably one of the strongest heroes in the entire patch. He’s won two out of every three games he’s been played in.
You might be wondering: if he’s so broken, why was he only picked 15 times? Great question – that’s because he was banned 139 times and had a 98% contest rate at the event. Every single team is banning him very early in drafts.
Conceptually, he’s pretty broken right now. With ranged carries being very popular, he naturally creates a strong “one melee + one ranged” laning combo. He gets insane vision control for the low price of 1,400 gold with his Aghanim’s Shard, and he has one of the most impactful teamfighting ultimates a support hero could possibly have – a way to root and disarm enemies who are under BKB.
Many of the best Dota 2 support players are also making use of the new Essence Distiller item, buying it as their first choice. Pros are clearly valuing Treant Protector right now, but your pubs probably have not caught up yet – now is the perfect time to abuse him for some easy MMR.
