Xbox user rinsed for battery fix to rival PlayStation’s DualSense
Without starting a war, it’s fair to say that Xbox’s Wireless Controller pales in comparison to PlayStation’s DualSense.
The DualSense is visually more appealing, boasts impressive haptic feedback, and – perhaps most importantly – has a rechargeable battery.
The Xbox Wireless Controller has pretty nice and ergonomic thumbstick placement, but it doesn’t have too much else going for it.
It’s a tech area that Xbox could really do with investing in ahead of the next-gen.
In the meantime, one Xbox user has taken to sharing their resolution to the controller’s lack of an ability to recharge.
Let’s face it, it’s a nuisance having to change the controller’s batteries all of time.
You can alleviate this problem slightly by using rechargeable batteries so you can just remove them, fill them up with fresh juice, and stick them back in rather than having to sift around in a drawer for a couple of AAs.
Reddit user kiZYal has taken things one step further, crafting their own built-in rechargeable battery to rival PlayStation’s DualSense.
The makeshift creation though is being rinsed for its precarious looking nature.
“I’ve modded my Xbox Series controller by adding a rechargeable battery to it, as I’d run out of batteries,” they said.
“Does anyone know how good the voltage regulator in the controller is? I just didn’t bother fitting my own, so in theory the controller is now running on ~4V.”
“POV: you’re putting this in your controller,” replied Game_Bread, inserting an image of a bomb from Counter-Strike 2.
“You know they make rechargeable batteries right,” added N7-o.
“No thanks, I’ll just stick with my rechargeable AAs,” said JamesUpton97 while deep_fried_cheese commented, “If you rage quit and throw it against a wall, it explodes.”
We must admit, it doesn’t look like the safest creation on Earth but we don’t know the OP’s credentials when it comes to electronics.
Clearly though, this entire debacle highlights where Xbox could grow its hardware in the next generation.
It’s an easy win and the next generation is most definitely there for the taking.

PlayStation and Xbox have gone head-to-head for years with PlayStation often coming out on top, but Sony’s recent decision to abandon physical media from January 2028 has turned the tide.
PlayStation fans have not stopped protesting in the three weeks since the announcement was made on July 1.
Every PlayStation tweet is flooded with comments from outraged users, PlayStation Plus subscriptions are being cancelled, and a petition has surpassed 334,000 signatures.
Xbox is yet to confirm its own stance on the future of physical media.
Some insiders have claimed that Xbox will head the same way as Sony, while others report that Xbox’s next-gen console includes a disc drive.
Xbox has suffered its own bad press after Asha Sharma announced she’d be laying off around 3,200 employees.
Studios including Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, and Double Fine have all parted ways with Xbox or been sold.
It’s only really Nintendo that’s sitting back and watching the drama unfold, but the noise surrounding Sony’s anti-physical stance appears to be the loudest of all.
Xbox could take a lot away from that as it looks to its next chapter.
