Crisol: Theater of Idols Developer Vermila Studios Has Reportedly Shut Down

Crisol: Theater of Idols developer Vermila Studios has reportedly closed its doors, according to staff who have taken to social media this week.

Initial reports about layoffs hitting the company emerged earlier this week, with staff confirming that not only is this the case, but some have stated that Vermila Studios has shut down completely. Speaking on X, Raúl Pernía Alejandro, a game designer who worked at the studio, confirmed that the developer had closed.

A few months ago, I shared with tremendous excitement the announcement of Crisol: Theater of Idols. Today, I wanted to provide a bit of context for everyone who followed the project and supported us from day one on Vermila. A few months after the launch, Vermila Studios has initiated a redundancy procedure that has ultimately led to the studio’s closure and the departure of the entire team. It’s very tough news for those of us who have dedicated so much effort and love to this project.

Even so, I don’t want that to be the memory that remains. Working at Crisol has been the first stage of my professional career and an experience of which I feel very, very proud. I’ve learned so much and have had the luck to share these two years with incredible people. I also wanted to thank all of you who played, shared the game, or simply supported us during the development and launch. Seeing the affection with which the community received Crisol was one of the greatest rewards of the entire journey.

Crisol: Theater of Idols launched in February 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and was published by Blumhouse Games. The game is a survival horror title where players follow Sun God assassin Gabriel Escudero, while explores a twisted version of Spain known as Tormentosa, which is populated by living puppet-like statues. An interesting spin on combat is that Gabriel wields weapons merged with the Sun God, but each one costs some blood from your health bar as they are loaded with his blood rather than ammo. As such, you must harvest corpses to replenish your health and ammo.
