Samsung has had an eventful week with Galaxy Unpacked dropping major reveals. Settling back into things, rumors are surfacing about its next flagship phone upgrades.
Rumors have started from a couple of different sources this week. The first stems from Galaxy Club (Dutch), claiming the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus could receive camera tech from a new company (via GSMArena). Samsung typically swaps its in-house Exynos chips for Qualcomm when its phones launch in other markets (markets that aren’t Korea or Europe). Now, rumors claim Samsung might forgo its camera sensor, ISOCELL, in favor of Sony’s.
The publication cites information from an unnamed source, stating this swap to Sony is being “tested” for the S27 and S27 Plus’ main sensor. Early tests show this sensor would arrive as 50MP, and that’s only if testing goes well and we see this through to fruition. Galaxy S27 rumors don’t end there, as tipster Lanzuk on Naver (Korean) states the phones could get a familiar battery upgrade.

Lanzuk claims silicon-carbon battery tech is currently “undergoing application testing” for Samsung’s next phones. While it’s easy to get excited early, Lanzuk says there are still a lot of moving parts. For one, the battery capacity has supposedly not increased. However, this could be due to the series’ early stages, as “nothing is finalized.”
Changes aplenty
Camera rumors haven’t been shy about Samsung’s S27 series. Specifically, there were reports about the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s changes, which say it could sport an ISOCELL HP6 sensor. While this is an “upgrade,” the device was still rumored to offer 200MP with this newer sensor. Let’s not forget about the alleged “Galaxy S27 Pro.” Word has it that Samsung could roll out four Galaxy S series phones next year, with the “Pro” being the new kid on the block.
The S27 Pro could feature cameras closer to the Ultra experience, but with “entirely new sensors” to switch things up. The battery rumor for the S27 series is interesting. We’ve heard rumors about Samsung potentially “catching up” to its competition with better, bigger batteries. Of course, we’re talking about silicon-carbon batteries, but nothing’s for certain. What is certain—nice to see, too—is that Samsung’s latest foldables rock this new tech.

It feels like we’re moving into a unique timeline for Samsung. Its foldables have gotten a battery upgrade we’ve been waiting on. It could’ve been better—cell capacity, of course. Samsung is still pretty far under its competition. I suppose having silicon-carbon tech is better than not.
