Wellumio Raises $9.75M in Pre-Series A Funding

Wellumio, a Wellington, New Zealand-based provider of a portable brain imaging solution for point-of-care stroke detection, raised $9.75M in Pre-Series A funding.

The round was led by Nuance Connected Capital, with participation from Bioshore Ventures, Jumpspace Ventures, Icehouse Ventures, NZ Growth Capital Partners, Pacific Channel, Booster, Cure Kids Ventures, Flying Kiwi, Enterprise Angels, and others.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its team, advance clinical and product development, and enable the next phase of clinical evaluation across additional sites and geographies.

Led by co-founder and CEO Dr. Shieak Tzeng, Wellumio is a medical device company developing portable neuroimaging technology designed to improve acute stroke diagnosis. Their platform, Axana, uses patented PGFM (pulsed gradient-free mapping) technology to provide rapid MRI-based stroke assessments directly at the point of care in critical care settings without the need for contrast agents, cryogenics, or shielded rooms.

They currently hold a U.S. patent (received in December 2025) for their technology and have conducted initial human feasibility trials as they progress toward regulatory approval.
