MrBeast teams with LeBron & The Rock to help 100 kids with cancer
MrBeast brought together some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment, including LeBron James and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, to grant wishes for 100 children affected by cancer.
The YouTuber’s July 25 upload, titled ‘We Helped 100 Kids Fight Cancer’, follows Jimmy Donaldson and his celebrity guests as they surprise children with trips, shopping sprees, meetings with their heroes, and other once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
The project also featured IShowSpeed, KSI, Stray Kids, LaurenZSide, Sam and Colby, Dr Mike, Christina Tosi, and several other creators and celebrities.
MrBeast and celebrities grant 100 wishes to children with cancer
The video begins with Mac, a child who recently completed his cancer treatment, receiving his wish of going skiing.
From there, MrBeast takes 30 children to Disney World, helps another swim with a whale shark, and gives young space fans the opportunity to sign a real SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket before its launch. Other children received an F1 experience, shopping sprees, gaming setups, and meetings with their favorite creators.
For one of the biggest surprises, MrBeast introduced a group of young basketball fans to LeBron James.
After shooting hoops with the children, James handed MrBeast the keys to House Three Thirty, a community space operated by the LeBron James Family Foundation in Akron, Ohio.
According to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, six of its “Honored Kids” and other pediatric cancer survivors participated in the surprise.
“I’m literally just about to blow up,” one child said after James appeared. “I thought I was in a dream.”
The Rock was also among the high-profile stars recruited for the project, while KSI surprised two young fans, Stray Kids held a meet-and-greet for a fan named Ezra, and Sam and Colby explored a haunted museum with another participant.
MrBeast additionally partnered with Disney to fly three children to its Aulani Resort in Hawaii before surprising them with a trip to the premiere of the live-action Moana movie.
MrBeast announces $6.5 million cancer research donation
The final wish came from an anonymous participant who asked MrBeast to use the opportunity to help other cancer patients.
That request inspired a massive blood drive in Greenville, North Carolina, which reportedly collected enough donations to potentially help save as many as 1,000 lives.
MrBeast then announced that he, biotechnology company Amgen, and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation were committing a combined $6.5 million to help launch a new Stand Up To Cancer Pediatric Cancer Dream Team.
“Me and my friends at Amgen and Saint Baldrick’s are gonna be making a $6.5 million donation to help kick-start the Dream Team,” he said.
The proposed Dream Team will bring scientists, doctors, and research institutions together to accelerate the development of new pediatric cancer treatments. St. Baldrick’s has separately committed to raising $1.5 million for the wider campaign.
“No kid should have to deal with cancer,” MrBeast concluded, “and hopefully this helps stop it.”
