God of War Laufey gets Feb 2027 release date

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 that God of War Laufey will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The announcement came during a dedicated panel that also detailed the game’s story and combat direction, and confirmed that a new Kratos-led entry in the franchise is already in development.
Faye takes center stage in the Everywhen
God of War Laufey shifts the series’ perspective from Kratos to his deceased wife, Faye, known to the Norse gods as Laufey the Just. The story picks up immediately after Faye’s funeral, the event that opened 2018’s God of War. Once her body is cremated by Kratos and Atreus, Faye awakens in the Everywhen, an afterlife realm where fallen deities from multiple mythologies fight for control.
Faye discovers that the protections she left behind for her family are breaking down and must fight through hostile pantheons to secure her son and husband’s future. Santa Monica Studio Head of Creative Cory Barlog said combat will combine the fluid movement of the Greek-era games with the heavier, character-driven combat of the Norse saga.
A direct bridge to the next Kratos game
Barlog used the panel to confirm that the next mainline, Kratos-led God of War title is already in development and will connect directly to the end of Faye’s story in the Everywhen.
“Laufey isn’t a detour from the mainline series; it’s a bridge,” Barlog said. “Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next.”
However… No title, footage, or release window has been given for the next Kratos game.
Release window and physical media
God of War Laufey lands in a crowded early 2027 release period alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and Metro 2039, all launching within roughly two weeks of each other. Sony also confirmed a physical disc release for God of War Laufey, arriving ahead of the publisher’s reported plan to stop producing physical discs by 2028.
