Rumour — Fable Has Gone ‘Uncomfortably’ Over Budget At Playground Games

Playground Games has reportedly gone ‘uncomfortably’ over budget with Fable ahead of its release in February 2027, according to Windows Central.

Fable was mentioned during a report about Xbox exclusives and multiformat titles, notably that any games that were previously confirmed as multiplatform would remain so. This of course includes Fable and Halo among others, although while Xbox could decide to cancel future Halo instalments releasing on rival formats, “the same cannot be said for the next Fable,” with sources claiming it has gone “uncomfortably” over budget.

Interestingly, early access for Fable begins just one day after the launch of PS5-exclusive God of War Laufey, so there’s probably going to be some stiff competition for players’ spare time around launch.

Fable is billed as a “new beginning for a legendary franchise” and serves as a reboot of the series, where players follow the the first Hero in a generation exploring a vibrant Albion packed with memorable characters, dark humour and of course…lots of chickens. Players can customise their Hero’s appearance and wield an assortment of powerful weapons to take on new foes and returning favourites alike in melee, ranged, and magic-based combat.

Fable launches on February 23, 2027 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
