Final Fantasy XIV Launches on Nintendo Switch 2 Next Week – Nintendojo
Final Fantasy XIV is finally coming to Nintendo Switch 2, and the release date is right around the corner. Announced by Square Enix during its recent FAN FESTIVAL 2026 in Berlin, Germany, along with a couple of other juicy tidbits. First, the release date of FFXIV on Switch 2 will be August 4, 2026. That’s next Tuesday!
Next, Square Enix showed off the upcoming Evercold expansion, which you can see right here:
This will be the first part of the Godless Realms Saga, which “introduces a new narrative expansion featuring a world overcome by an encroaching, relentless frost. As civilization struggles to survive, an enigmatic figure descends from the sky, marking a pivotal turning point for the frozen realm.” The first new job that will be introduced is called Bastion, which Square describes as “a main tank that wields a pair of greatshields known as skyltborg.” The expansion hits Switch 2 Juanary 2027. Finally, Square also showed off the upcoming Evangelion and Final Fantasy VII-themed raids that will be coming to FFXIV.
Note that Square will require a separate subscription for those playing FFXIV on Switch 2, but that in an effort to be fair to users, the first month will let everyone play for free in order to see how the game runs on the new hardware. Players can choose between Starter and Complete Editions depending on how much of the game they want to experience from the outset. Pre-orders are available now.
