Florida woman indicted on bank fraud, identity theft and false tax return charges

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Federal prosecutors have charged a Tallahassee woman with dozens of fraud-related counts, including bank fraud and aggravated identity theft, following a federal grand jury indictment.

Lekishaann Huggins, 45, of Tallahassee, Florida, was indicted by a federal grand jury on 39 counts of bank fraud, one count of aggravated identity theft, four counts of spending money laundering, and two counts of filing a false tax return.

John P. Heekin, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced the charges today.

Huggins appeared for arraignment in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick in Tallahassee. A jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before U.S. Chief District Court Judge Allen C. Winsor.

If convicted, Huggins faces up to 30 years in prison for each of the 39 bank fraud counts, a mandatory two-year prison term consecutive to any other sentence for the aggravated identity theft count, up to 10 years in prison for each spending money laundering count, and up to three years in prison for each false tax return count. Prosecutors also said the charges carry potential restitution and forfeiture of assets.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Inspector General.

An indictment is an allegation by a grand jury and is not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, where the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The announcement comes as the Justice Department continues a broader anti-fraud push tied to President Donald J. Trump’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, described as a whole-of-government effort to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse within federal benefit programs. The Justice Department said that on April 7 it created the National Fraud Enforcement Division, which it said is investigating and prosecuting fraud against the American people. The task force is chaired by Vice President J.D. Vance.
