JioTag 2 with Android and iOS compatibility launched

Reliance Jio has launched the JioTag 2 as a compact tracking solution designed to help users locate personal items such as keys, wallets, luggage, backpacks, and electronic gadgets as the successor to the first JioTag that was launched back in 2023.

The device functions as a multi-platform tracker, offering native integration with major smartphone ecosystems to assist in finding misplaced or lost belongings.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

A defining characteristic of the JioTag 2 is its dual compatibility with both major mobile operating systems. The device can be synced using simple steps to work natively with:

  • Apple Find My on iOS devices (including iPhone and iPad)
  • Google Find Hub on Android devices

This native integration allows users to manage the tracker directly through their phone’s existing location services without relying on a single brand ecosystem.

Core Features and Functionality

The JioTag 2 incorporates several hardware and software capabilities intended to streamline asset tracking:

  • Audio Alerts: The tracker features a built-in 120 dB loud buzzer. Users can trigger a “Play Sound” command via their connected app to audibly locate items nearby.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE): The device utilizes BLE connectivity for energy-efficient, fast, and reliable communication with a paired smartphone within immediate range.
  • Global Community Network: When an item is lost outside of normal Bluetooth range, the tracker utilizes community-based locating. It communicates securely with billions of surrounding Android and iOS devices on the Apple Find My and Google Find Hub networks to relay its remote location back to the owner.
  • No SIM Required: Operating entirely on beaconing protocols, the tracker does not require a cellular SIM card or ongoing data recharge plans to function globally.
  • Battery and Durability: The device comes with an IP64 dust and water resistance rating. It is powered by a replaceable battery providing up to a 1-year lifespan, with an extra battery included in the retail box.
Market Comparison and Practical Use Cases

The JioTag 2 is designed with a lightweight, ultra-compact form factor featuring a built-in loop, making it simple to attach to a key ring, secure onto a bicycle, or slip inside a gym bag.

When evaluated against traditional tracking hardware, the JioTag 2 occupies a distinct middle ground between standard Bluetooth tags and dedicated GPS trackers:
