Xiaomi Becomes the First Brand to Roll Out Stable Android 17 Beyond Pixel Devices
Xiaomi has become the first smartphone manufacturer, after Google, to release a stable version of Android 17 for its devices. The update marks an important milestone for the company, showing its commitment to delivering the latest Android software quickly. However, while the update includes Android 17, users should not expect many of the new features that Google introduced with the operating system.
The stable Android 17 update is currently rolling out to the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the company’s newest flagship smartphones. Other models in the Xiaomi 17 lineup, including the Pro and Pro Max versions, have not yet received the update. In addition, Xiaomi has started offering the Android 17-based software to selected users of the Xiaomi 15T Pro through its Mi Pilot testing program.

The new software is based on HyperOS 3, Xiaomi’s latest custom Android interface. The update is large in size, requiring around 10GB of storage for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and about 8GB for the standard Xiaomi 17. It is currently available for global and European versions of the devices.
Although the update is built on Android 17, the official changelog focuses mainly on the June 2026 Android security patch. It also mentions general improvements in system stability and bug fixes but does not highlight any major new features. In fact, users only discover that their phone is running Android 17 after checking the “About Phone” section following installation.
One reason for the limited changes is Xiaomi’s software strategy. The company develops many of its features through HyperOS rather than relying entirely on Google’s Android updates. As a result, many of Android 17’s headline features are missing from this release.
For example, users will not find app bubbles, screen recording reactions, or separate volume controls for Google’s Gemini AI assistant. These features were introduced as part of Android 17 but are not included in Xiaomi’s current software version. Instead, users may notice only small visual updates, such as slightly redesigned system app icons, along with the latest security improvements.
Despite the lack of exciting new features, the update still offers important benefits. The June 2026 security patch helps protect devices from recently discovered security threats, while system stability improvements can make everyday performance more reliable. Bug fixes may also solve minor software issues that users experienced in previous versions.

The rollout also gives Xiaomi an important achievement. While other Android manufacturers, including Samsung, are still testing Android 17 through beta programs, Xiaomi has already released a stable version for some of its flagship phones. This positions the company as one of the fastest Android brands when it comes to adopting Google’s latest operating system.
For users expecting a completely new Android experience, the update may feel disappointing. Most of the changes happen behind the scenes, with very few visible additions or interface improvements. However, receiving the latest Android version and security updates remains valuable for keeping devices secure and up to date.
As Android 17 continues to expand to more devices, Xiaomi is expected to introduce additional HyperOS features through future updates. For now, the company’s latest release is best viewed as an important software maintenance update rather than a feature-packed upgrade. Even so, Xiaomi has earned recognition for becoming the first non-Pixel smartphone brand to officially deliver stable Android 17 to its users.
