DeKalb Regional Medical Center launches robotic surgery program

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — DeKalb Regional Medical Center has launched its new robotic-assisted surgery program with the addition of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System and the successful completion of its first robotic-assisted procedure on June 29.

The hospital says the milestone brings advanced, minimally invasive surgical technology to DeKalb County, allowing many patients to receive specialized care closer to home instead of traveling to larger hospitals.

“As a rural hospital, we are committed to ensuring our community has access to the sameinnovative technology and high-quality care found in larger medical centers,” said DarrellBlaylock, president of DeKalb Regional Medical Center. “The addition of the da Vinci XiSurgical System demonstrates our investment in the future of healthcare and our commitment to providing exceptional care right here in our community.”

The da Vinci Xi Surgical System allows surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions with enhanced precision and a high-definition, 3D view of the surgical site.

The robotic system translates the surgeon’s hand movements into precise, controlled movements of miniature instruments. The surgeon remains in complete control throughout every procedure. The robotic system does not operate independently; rather, it serves as an extension of the surgeon’s hands

Hospital officials said potential patient benefits include less pain, reduced blood loss, lower risk of infection, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and minimal scarring. Officials say the launch of the robotic surgery programs marks a significant investment in the future of healthcare for the community, giving more patients access to advanced surgical care without leaving the area.
