How to Get Panthalus in Palworld

Palworld‘s long-awaited 1.0 release brings with it a surprisingly wide variety of new Pals to add to the game’s already substantial roster. While many of them are encountered out in the fields of Palpagos, as per tradition, a select few usually require a bit more effort to find. Furthermore, sometimes there’s one Pal in particular that really makes you jump through hoops in order to consider you worthy of its attention, much less part of your collection.

A prime example of that is Panthalus, a gigantic whale that only appears to those who complete certain objectives. You’ll also need it to access the legendary World Tree on the north side of Palpagos, so if you’re wondering how to go about securing this fabled beast, here’s how to get Panthalus in Palworld.

All Echobone Locations

Unlike other Pals, Panthalus is not one that free-roams the map, or one that you’ll find in a fixed location like the game’s many alpha bosses. Instead, it’s a matter of summoning this giant whale beast of legend, and you’ll need the right tools to do so. To start, make sure that you pick up the ‘Panthalus’ main mission from the Ancient Civilization Researcher (seen above), who’s located on the tiny Deserted Islet at -170,33.

They’ll mention that you need to find a few unique items called Echobones, and they’re scattered around Palpagos. There are four Echobones in all that you need to find and collect, and they’ll be lying on the ground in their respective locations, with a beam of orange light emitting from them to help them stand out from a distance. Having a flying Pal to expedite this process is highly recommended.

Marine Echobone

The Marine Echobone is located on the skull of the partially submerged skeleton in the water near Grassy Behemoth Hills.

Silent Echobone

The Silent Echobone is located inside the skull of another partially submerged skeleton in the water between Mossanda Forest and Eastern Wild Island. It’s also where you’ll find the Jormuntide (Level 55) alpha boss swimming around.

Seafoam Echobone

The Seafoam Echobone is located at Mount Obsidian island, specifically inside the skeleton just south of the Scorched Obsidian Watchtower.

Tidewind Echobone

The Tidewind Echobone is located up in Astral Mountains, specifically on the skeleton directly beside the Land of Absolute Zero teleport. Note that it’s the skeleton on top of the small frozen lake, not the one further to the north in the cliffs.

How to Craft Echoing Flute in Palworld

Once you have all four Echobones, return and speak to the Ancient Civilization Researcher at the Deserted Islet. You’ll then get the crafting recipe for the Echoing Flute, which you’ll need to summon Panthalus. With that, return to your base of choice, and you can complete this craft at a basic Primitive Workbench, or any Production Assembly Line machine.

After the craft is done, return to the Deserted Islet and speak to the Ancient Civilization Researcher. The nearby stone will glow, indicating that Panthalus is now unlocked for you.

Similar to Tower Bases and Boss Dungeons, interact with it twice to be taken directly to the arena where Panthalus will be waiting for you. A brief, unique cutscene will also play where your character blows into the Echoing Flute.

How to Defeat Panthalus

Once you interact with the glowing stone and play the Echoing Flute, you’ll automatically be taken to a beach-themed arena where Panthalus resides. You only have 10 minutes to defeat Panthalus in this encounter, and the timer begins as soon as you enter the area, so don’t linger too long.

Panthalus is a Level 70 boss with a lot of health, so having your character and Pals at Level 75-80 is highly recommended. Ancient Armor or better, along with a sufficient shield (Hyper Shield at minimum), and a hefty arsenal of weaponry is optimal.

Pal Swim Speed is amplified in this arena, so take advantage of it if you have strong Water Pals with powerful attacks!

Panthalus is also a water-type Pal, so Electric-based Pals are the best counter on the elemental front. Flying Pals are also good for helping to dodge some of the wide-range attacks while brandishing long-range damage attacks of their own. Accessories like the Double Jump Boots or Air Dash Boots can also help you evade these attacks more easily.

Panthalus will begin the fight by fighting long-distance out on the water, so ranged weapons that can inflict damage over a significant distance are optimal here. Their main attacks are all water-based, including a barrage of bubbles that project from their head, and they are homing, so you’ll need to dodge accordingly to mitigate damage from it.

Other attacks include a barrage of geysers that move around the arena, and Panthalus will also occasionally leap and dive beneath the water to ambush you.

A wave attack that Panthalus will cause by swaying its body to the side, so be ready to dodge to the side when that appears. Once Panthalus drops to half health or lower, they will unleash a far, far bigger tidal wave that you’ll receive a warning on the screen for, and you can use the big updraft near the beach isle to leap high into the air and evade it. Otherwise, you’ll take massive damage and may wipe altogether.

How to Capture Panthalus

Once Panthalus’ health is depleted, you’ll have the chance to capture it, and any type of Pal Sphere will work. Don’t waste your high-quality Spheres, so stick to the basic Pal Spheres. The arena even has some scattered around, so take advantage of them if needed. The capture will succeed on the first try and the battle then ends.

Note that Panthalus can be placed in your party, and you can fly it without crafting a saddle first or worrying about stamina. Panthalus can also be placed at a base as a defensive Pal, but it has no work suitability due to its massive size.

How to Use Panthalus to Enter World Tree

Panthalus’ main purpose, at least starting out, is to help you enter the World Tree and its surrounding biome as part of the main story. Once you have Panthalus in your party, make your way to the area directly in front of the World Tree and it’s massive barrier. Hop aboard your fastest flying and/or swimming Pal from the northwest side of Astral Mountain, though make sure you have the stamina to make the trek.

Alternatively, you can use Panthalus for this so that you don’t have to worry about stamina. Also, as mentioned before, you don’t need to craft a saddle to ride them, so while it may take a little longer, it’s still not a bad choice.

Either way, once you’re ashore there, make your way up the winding path to the platform where you’ll find a pedestal to interact with. Also make sure to unlock the Foot of the World Tree teleport statue nearby.

A cutscene will then play where Panthalus appears and forces the barrier to disappear, allowing you to enter the new region. The World Tree region is technically separate from the rest of Palpagos, but you can teleport directly into it from your base or any other eagle statue once you have at least one teleport point inside the World Tree unlocked.
