What are we all playing this weekend?

This weekend is the eye of the wedding storm, a brief reprieve before heading up to Sheffield next week for further nuptials. Though, that doesn’t mean I can relax. My body is in a finely tuned state that I can’t let slacken with the finish line is in sight.

I will, of course, be following my wedding guest training regime.

7:00 Wake up

7:45 Practice small-talk with person whose name you don’t remember

8:30 Breakfast – three canapes

9:00 Dance practice #1 – Charleston dance bees knees

10:00 Listen to bad best man speeches while keeping the despair out of your eyes

10:30 Break for pillow scream

10:45 More best man speeches

11:30 Cryo chamber recovery

12:30 Dance practice #2 – person trying to floss for the first time

13:00 Lunch – seven canapes, flute of warm prosecco

13:45 Practice small-talk with person whose name you forgot after getting them to tell you again earlier

14:00 Bouquet snatching (why should it only be for the women?)

15:00 Snack – two canapes, two flutes of warm prosecco

15:05 Deliver impromptu speech without slurring

15:30 Dance practice #3 – spinning partner on overloaded dancefloor

16:15 Watch Pride & Prejudice (Not related to wedding season, it’s just a great movie)

19:00 Dinner – small plate of chicken, lamb, and butternut squash served family style

20:00 Bedtime

But enough about that, here’s what the rest of the team are up to.

Callum
Not many games for me, as I’ve got friends up this weekend, but I did make a recent discovery deep in the crevices of Reddit: A truly excellent pro wrestling general manager simulator in the style of Football Manager called Total Extreme Wrestling IX. And as a man who used to go full goblin mode on the limited GM Mode tools included in the WWE 2K games, I’m in heaven. I’ll no doubt fiddle around with that more and return sleep-deprived on Monday, ranting about how John Cena won’t sign to my tiny independent British wrestling brand because he doesn’t see the upside of taking a £100-a-week salary.

Mark
I’ve got a couple of little games I’ve accepted codes for, which I won’t name, but will feel awkward next time I email some PRs if I don’t sink a couple more hours into them over this weekend. Aside from that, maybe some chill island hopping in AC Black Flag Resynced now I’ve had a chance to recover from my rum-fuelled review run through it.

James
Following four days and four nights of communing with Denshattack! James, unfortunately, transformed into a locomotive. The Island of Sodor’s best surgeons are working on him as we speak.

Edwin
After spending last week at Tennocon, getting up close and personal with Warframe and Soulframe, this weekend Edwin is doing the same with his bedframe.

Jeremy
More Black Flag Resynced awaits me this weekend. On that note, we’ll be going down to Folkestone on Sunday (that’s southeast seaside England for the non-UK lot reading this, not too far from the Cliffs of Dover) and perhaps I shall look at that wide blue expanse across the horizon and envision a simpler pirate’s life, like our good friend Edward Kenway who made his fortune abroad before retiring to a fancy home in London. Hopefully, the events that occurred to sir Kenway in Assassin’s Creed III shall not befall me! (Slight spoilers, I guess, for a game from 2012 that Ubisoft will inevitably “resync” at some point in the future, seeing as how Black Flag Resynced has now made a bucketload of gold.)

Ollie
Somewhere out there is a cat cafe that’s having the double treat of being filled with cats and visited by Ollie.

Julian
I’m not sure I’ll have time for games between all that wedding prep, but, if I do, I want to get stuck into The Incident At Galley House. Jon Ingold (of Inkle fame) namechecked it during his talk at Develop and it’s given me a hankering to solve a puzzle or two. Like what’s the name of that person who’s going to be at the wedding next week. You know, he did that thing, at the job, with the uniform…

And you, reader dear, what are you playing this weekend…?
