HMD Unveils Nokia 123 Shield, an Affordable Feature Phone With Long Battery Life

HMD has introduced the Nokia 123 Shield, a new 2G feature phone designed for users who need a durable and reliable device. The company describes it as its most affordable water- and dust-resistant feature phone, making it suitable for outdoor workers and people who spend a lot of time in harsh environments.

The Nokia 123 Shield is built to handle everyday challenges such as rain, dust, sand, and accidental splashes. Although HMD does not prominently advertise an official IP rating, the company notes that the phone meets the requirements of the IP65 standard under IEC 60529. This means it offers protection against dust and low-pressure water jets, adding extra durability for daily use.

To further improve its rugged design, HMD has equipped the phone with slip-resistant textured sides for a better grip. It also includes rubber seals that protect the charging and headphone ports from dust and moisture, helping the device last longer in demanding conditions.

HMD says the Nokia 123 Shield also delivers stronger and more reliable call quality than older 2G feature phones such as the Nokia 105. The company claims users can expect clearer voice calls and improved network connectivity, which can be especially useful in areas with weaker mobile signals.

The phone runs on the Unisoc SC6531E processor and uses the S30+ operating system. It comes with 4MB of RAM and 4MB of internal storage. You can also expand the storage up to 32GB using a microSD card. While these specifications are basic by modern smartphone standards, they are sufficient for calling, messaging, and other essential functions.

The Nokia 123 Shield features a 2.4-inch QVGA display and includes a QVGA rear camera. The camera comes with an LED flash that also works as a flashlight. According to HMD, the flash is three times brighter than the one found on the Nokia 110, making it more useful in dark environments.

Battery life is another highlight of the new feature phone. It packs a 1,750mAh removable battery that charges through a USB-C port. HMD claims the battery can provide up to 19 days of standby time and 27.9 hours of talk time on a single charge, reducing the need for frequent recharging.

Additional features include dual SIM support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and FM radio with both wired and wireless functionality. These features make the phone a practical choice for users looking for a simple communication device with long battery life and useful everyday tools.

The Nokia 123 Shield is available in green and purple color options. HMD has not officially announced global pricing yet. However, the phone is already listed by retailers in Bulgaria for around €35 and in Greece for approximately €40, suggesting that it will remain an affordable option in the feature phone market.
