Ariokan: create your cards, break the Meta – Online collectible card game where you make the cards (+ rouguelite!) – now on Steam after 6 years!
|
After 6 long years of development, I'm super-excited to announce that this game is finally out on Steam, with more than 11K cards made by the community of the Closed Beta, and an extra single-player-only Roguelite mode! Links: Platforms: PC (Windows) only (for true PC gamers), with a free demo on Steam! I'm from Fatum Games, a small fully remote indie game studio based in Spain, made up of people who share a deep love for collectible card games, both physical and digital. With Ariokan, we want to bring freedom of expression back into the world of card games. We believe players should be able to create, experiment, and express their own ideas through gameplay, strategies, and card creation, instead of just "copy-pasting" decks around. Our goal is to empower creativity, encourage experimentation, and build a card game where imagination becomes part of the experience itself. How Ariokan was born: Players end up choosing these decks more and more, creating a competitive landscape (the "Meta") where everyone plays those two or three winning strategies. This eliminates variety, making every game the same: even games with thousands of cards end up not seeing any of them played. And it is from the desire to solve this problem that Ariokan was born: an online collectible card game, in which players can create new official cards that are then made available to everyone. The idea is to use your creativity to invent effective, extravagant, or simply fun strategies, in order to break the monotony and invent countermoves that beat the most “Meta” strategies at the moment, in a virtuous circle driven by the players. Some FAQ: – Are there optimal strategies that people try to exploit to maximize winrate? Of course there are. But with billions of combinations there's always a viable counterplay: you just need to figure it out. We (the devs) patch the game very often tweaking numbers here and there, so what's "optimal" today often isn't tomorrow. After our last global tournament (yesterday) the community agrees on the fact that we've achieved enough variety that there's no real "dominating strategy". – Why do you say you're not P2W if there's a shopwhere you can buy boosters? Because you can make cards at any time, and you don't need to unlock multiple copies of a card. Boosters simply give you more of what's already there. And we literally give plenty of boosters for free every day through rewards. Not a single player who actually played the game during the last 6 years has complained about monetization. – Do you also have a single player campaign mode? yes! And it's a roguelite one where you can come across cards made by other players too 😀 We want to hear from you! Also feel free to join the official Discord community, where you can also see all cards that get created, in realtime, and connect with other players. submitted by /u/RikuTheFuffs |
