IT Exports Reach Record $4.6 Billion During FY-2026 in Pakistan as Digital Economy and AI Sector Grow

Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in its digital economy, with information technology (IT) exports reaching a record $4.6 billion during FY-2026. The growth reflects the country’s expanding technology sector and increasing focus on artificial intelligence (AI), supported by government reforms and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

According to official figures, Pakistan’s IT and ICT exports increased by 21% compared to the previous year, marking the highest export earnings ever recorded by the sector. The strong performance highlights the country’s growing presence in the global technology market and the rising demand for Pakistani IT services.

The sector also posted a record trade surplus of $3.9 billion during the same period. This achievement is considered an important milestone for Pakistan’s economy, as it strengthens foreign exchange earnings and demonstrates the increasing contribution of the IT industry to national economic growth.

Pakistan’s freelance industry also delivered impressive results. Remittances from Pakistani freelancers rose by 78%, reaching $1.76 billion during fiscal year 2026. The sharp increase reflects the growing reputation of Pakistani professionals in international digital marketplaces and the expanding opportunities available through remote work.

The government has also taken several steps to accelerate the country’s digital transformation. These include the implementation of the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025, a planned $1 billion investment in the AI sector, and the establishment of advanced AI centers in Haripur and NUST. These initiatives aim to strengthen research, innovation, and the development of advanced digital technologies across Pakistan.

Experts believe that continued growth in IT exports, combined with investments in AI and digital infrastructure, will help diversify Pakistan’s exports while creating new employment opportunities. They also expect these efforts to attract greater foreign investment and support the transition toward a knowledge-based economy.

With record export earnings, rising freelance income, and increasing investment in emerging technologies, Pakistan’s digital sector continues to gain momentum. If these reforms and investments continue, the country could further strengthen its position as a competitive player in the global technology and digital services industry.
