Valve releases files for Steam Machine owners to make their own cases at home
Valve has released official 3D CAD files for the Steam Machine’s exterior, making it easier for owners to design and print custom faceplates, accessories, and other modifications for the desktop gaming PC.
The files are available for anyone to download, allowing hobbyists to share and adapt the design for non-commercial projects. Valve said anyone interested in producing commercial accessories can contact the company directly.
The newly released CAD files include the Steam Machine’s exterior shell, giving modders accurate measurements for creating custom faceplates, replacement panels, stands, mounts, and other 3D-printed accessories.

While encouraging community projects, Valve also included a warning in the accompanying documentation, noting that “opening the outside enclosure of your Steam Machine will void a warranty you may otherwise enjoy,” cautioning users that any damage caused while opening the device won’t be covered.
The release follows Valve’s recent push to make more of its hardware accessible to enthusiasts. Earlier this year, the company published CAD files for the Steam Controller, while an official design for the Steam Machine’s e-ink display was also made available earlier this month.
ValveAlongside the CAD release, Valve shared an update on Steam Machine availability and software improvements.
The company confirmed that FSR 4.1 is now available through Proton Experimental, giving users access to AMD’s latest upscaling technology on supported games.
Valve also said it expects everyone currently in the Steam Machine reservation queue to have the opportunity to purchase a unit before the end of the year.
“We’re fulfilling orders on a daily basis,” Valve said, while noting that queue times continue to vary depending on the product and region.
The company also addressed reports from customers who moved directly from the reservation list to receiving a purchase invitation without first getting a notification that they had entered the queue.
Valve said it will now send an additional email to let customers know they’ve progressed to the next stage of the ordering process.
