PlayStation Plus users praise the “most visually impressive games of this generation”, there’s just one problem
A PlayStation Plus user has praised a free action RPG as one of the “most visually impressive games of this generation”, and to be fair, they have a point.
When you think of the best-looking games of the current generation, whether it’s on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch 2, there’s a good chance that the first game that comes to mind isn’t Ubisoft’s 2023 action RPG, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
When Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was released in 2023, due to the stellar year of video game releases, it may have flown under the radar for many. Perhaps even for the most die-hard fan of the James Cameron blockbuster movies.
Though to be fair, any game that launched in the same years as Baldur’s Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Resident Evil 4 remake, to name a few, stands a good chance of stepping out of the overpowering shadows.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is free on PlayStation Plus
Earlier this month, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was added to PlayStation Plus Premium, along with eight other games, and it offered subscribers the perfect opportunity to check out the Ubisoft title.
“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is one of the most visually impressive games of this generation,” declared Redditor Pylicrye. Taking a look at the screenshot shared, it’s hard to argue.
However, as fun as this game can be, graphics aren’t everything. A concept that many fellow Redditors were keen to point out.
“This game is one of the best examples of ‘graphics aren’t everything,’” replied Routine-Secret-413.
“Too bad the gameplay wasn’t impressive,” added findtheself.
“It looks super good, but it felt repetitive like an hour or two in,” said FruitGauze.

A third-person update arrived in December 2025
In December 2025, to coincide with the cinematic release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, Ubisoft dropped a third-person update two years after the launch of the game. Which was quite baffling. Better late than never, right?
At the very least, the free third-person update offered players a new way to experience Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora or may have enticed those initially put off by the first-person perspective.
How well was Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora received?

On the aggregate website Metacritic, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora scored a decent 72 from critics and 7.1 from users. On the PC platform Steam, it’s rated as “Mostly Positive” from over 8,370 user reviews.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If you subscribe to PS Plus Premium, it’s worth giving this game a shot, because you never know, you might be pleasantly surprised.
