Port Harcourt – Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have apprehended a man, identified as Richard Emmanuel, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday, following a dispute reportedly sparked by suspicions of infidelity in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
Emmanuel, believed to be in his early 30s, is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) after his transfer to the command’s headquarters for further investigation on Monday, July 13, 2026.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday at Abraham Street, Eneka, when the suspect confronted the deceased over allegations that she was cheating on him, a claim sources said Caroline denied, leading to a heated altercation.
The argument allegedly turned violent, when Emmanuel reportedly attacked the Caroline and inflicted fatal injuries on her.
Residents who heard her screams rushed to the scene and found Caroline lying in a pool of blood.
It was gathered that the residents immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital to save her, but she was pronounced dead.
It was learnt that officers from the Eneka Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, following distress calls, responded swiftly and found the suspect already restrained by residents before taking him into custody.
The lifeless body of Caroline was later deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident.
She said the suspect has been taken into custody, adding that investigations are ongoing.
“I can confirm that the suspect is in police custody. Investigation has commenced with a view to ensuring justice in the matter,” she said.
