AC Black Flag Resynced to Add Animus Sequences from ‘Mirage’
Assassin’s Creed (AC) Black Flag Resynced is currently dominating the gaming charts. The title sold an impressive 3.5 million copies in just 14 days. Naturally, the remake stays largely faithful to the original masterpiece. However, developers removed a few fan-favorite features. Players can no longer toggle Edward Kenway’s hood during cinematic moments. Furthermore, standard mission replays are entirely missing from the game.
Fortunately, relief might be on the horizon. Game Director Richard Knight recently sat down for an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor. During the conversation, Knight hinted at a major future update. He expressed a strong desire to bring popular “Animus Sequences” of Assassin’s Creed (AC) Mirage into the remake.
What Are Animus Sequences?
Originally, AC Mirage introduced Animus Sequences as a post-launch challenge mode. This feature allows players to replay investigations, contracts, and black box missions. Consequently, it applies strict limitations and gameplay twists to make these tasks much harder.
Adding this mechanic to AC Black Flag Resynced would effectively replace the missing mission replay option. Moreover, it would give players a fresh reason to keep playing long after the credits roll.
Knight’s background working on the Hitman series heavily influences this idea. He wants to create flexible black box missions that offer deep replayability. Therefore, throwing new mission constraints at the player perfectly mirrors the successful Hitman formula.
Overcoming Engine Limitations
Despite the exciting premise, implementing this feature presents real technical hurdles. The current “modern Anvil Engine” does not natively support the Animus Sequences technology.
Knight clarified the situation directly. He stated:
We’ve looked into this one quite a bit. I can’t promise anything on it just because it exists in Mirage, but it doesn’t exist in the modern Anvil [Engine].
Knight added that while the team has a conceptual solution, they need more time. They must figure out if they can actually build the feature and determine the required development time.

Future AC Black Flag Resynced Updates & Timelines
Fans should expect a lengthy wait. AC Mirage received its Animus Sequences mode in November 2025. This arrived as part of the free “Valley of Memory” DLC, a full two years after the game’s initial launch. Given Knight’s recent comments, AC Black Flag Resynced players might face a similar multi-year timeline.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has already confirmed a New Game Plus mode. The development team is actively working on it right now, which gives players one guaranteed method to replay missions. Still, it remains unclear if the Animus Sequence challenges will launch alongside this specific update.
Regardless, players have plenty to anticipate. Between upcoming Black Flag Resynced updates and recent leaks pointing toward Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the franchise’s future remains packed with new content.
