Beyond India’s GCC boom: the difficult journey from cost to value
On the face of it, India’s global capability centre (GCC) story has never looked stronger. Nearly 2,000 GCCs — offshore units of multinational companies — now operate in the country, spanning multiple industries. In what has been a muted business environment for India’s IT services industry, they have been a bright spot. Their numbers are expected to cross 2,500 by 2030, cementing India’s position as a pre-eminent destination for such offices.
Yet, beneath this growth momentum lies an emerging fault line: while GCCs continue to scale rapidly, a sizeable number are struggling to remain strategically relevant to their parent organisations.
