A Highly Anticipated Update for Black Ops 6
Currently, gamers can only access Black Ops 6 through the central launcher. However, that changes completely tomorrow. Players must simply redownload the new standalone version to launch the title directly. Meanwhile, you do not need to worry about manually deleting old files. The system will automatically remove all legacy content tied to Black Ops 6 modes from your main Call of Duty install. As a result, this process will instantly free up massive amounts of storage space on your hard drive.
Activision originally launched Call of Duty HQ in November 2023. Initially, the company wanted to create a unified entry point. They aimed to bring recent mainline installments and the free-to-play Warzone together under one roof. The developers framed this app as a simple way to switch between games and manage files.
However, the rollout quickly frustrated the gaming community. Players heavily criticized the added installation steps. Furthermore, they hated the massive mandatory downloads. The app also buried newer releases deep inside a cluttered central hub. Fortunately, rumors about Black Ops 6 leaving this launcher have circulated online since late April 2026. Now, those leaks are fully confirmed.
What Happens Next?
Activision is steadily unwinding this unpopular setup. In fact, the company already removed Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 from the app back in 2025. Based on this current cadence, fans can expect Black Ops 7 to depart the launcher around summer 2027.
Even so, Activision will not retire the CoD HQ app altogether. Instead, the company continues to refine the launcher. It will remain the central hub to easily find Warzone and the newest annual release. Ultimately, this specific update addresses the community’s biggest complaint. Activision is finally giving players direct access to individual games and much more control over what they actually download.
