DeepSeek’s plan for the Technological Singularity

In his leaked investor call, Liang Wenfeng spoke for four hours with several investors about the future of the open-source AI company. In it, he described several important points: how DeepSeek was able to generate real revenue, how the company would come close to monopolizing the intelligence market, and the most important point: future goals. Liang described how in 2025 they had developed chain-of-thought and Sparse Attention, and AI agents in 2026, and that they planned to develop Continual Learning by 2027, and focus on world models and robots in 2028.

China doesn't sleep, so I've added two new non-canonical developments, which will happen in the rest of the decade after the actual predictions.

2029: Advanced chips.

I think that by mid-2029, Huawei will manage to develop 1.4–0.7 nm chips. Intel has already developed 7-angstrom chip prototypes, so it's not far-fetched that a superpower like China will achieve this by mid-2029, since by then it will have free labor (specialized robots), proto-superintelligent agents designing new chips, and staggering energy capacity (fission reactors, massive solar plants). This will fully complete the cycle (AI + robots + chips + energy), so DeepSeek would enter a physical and digital singularity. Meanwhile, the US, however much it may be one or two years ahead in AI, lacks both the industrial and energy capacity, so it will fall behind.

2030: Nuclear fusion systems.

By 2030 China would already have infinite labor and infinite compute. Both of these fields would grow hyperbolically, but energy would not. Nuclear fusion isn't critical, since it falls under the industrial domain, but it's worth keeping an eye on. I assume China could have commercial, profitable nuclear fusion reactors or some kind of self-sufficient swarm of space satellites around the sun.

Honorable mention: Self-Judgment.

I think DeepSeek could have systems capable of directing their own alignment, fully automating research. I think this will happen between 2033 and 2035.
