DoorDash is advocating for the deployment of autonomous delivery robots in New Mexico, emphasizing their potential to modernize delivery infrastructure and support local commerce.

In a company presentation, DoorDash highlighted its existing reach in the state, stating that in 2025 it had more than 45,000 active Dashers, nearly 3,500 merchants on the platform, $300 million in merchant sales, and over 10 million orders delivered to customers.

The proposed robot, called “Dot,” is designed for short-range deliveries of about 3 to 5 miles. DoorDash said the device weighs approximately 350 pounds, can carry up to 30 pounds of cargo, and can travel at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. The company described the robot as behaving “like a cautious cyclist.”

DoorDash said autonomous delivery is intended to complement human workers, not replace them, and could help merchants grow their businesses, meet demand, and improve delivery quality.

The presentation also outlined what DoorDash said would be required to deploy the robots in New Mexico. Under the proposed framework, personal delivery devices would be allowed to travel on sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, or alongside roads. The devices would need identification numbers, company contact information, brakes, and lights. The proposal also calls for at least $100,000 in liability insurance.

DoorDash said local governments would be limited in adding extra taxes, fees, or rules, except when necessary for public health or safety.

The company noted that similar legislation is already advancing in states such as Arizona, Louisiana, and Tennessee.
