FF14 Throws FF7 Revelation Fans A Bone With Crossover Raid

The two biggest Final Fantasy games of all time are finally crossing over in 2027, as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have a dedicated Raid in Final Fantasy 14, which includes new outfits and a Gold Saucer minigame.

The next expansion for Final Fantasy 14 is Evercold, which is set to launch in January 2027. Square Enix had previously revealed that Evercold would introduce a crossover raid based on Neon Genesis Evangelion, with key art showing an Eva. In the past, Final Fantasy 14 has featured cameos and dungeons based on other entries in its series, but fans weren’t expecting a new one quite so quickly.

It was announced during the keynote at Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival Berlin that Evercold will feature the Beyond the Lifestream Raid, acting as a crossover with the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is set to launch in Spring 2027. No artwork was shown, but fans were given a brief glimpse at the content that’s coming.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Is Coming To Final Fantasy 14 In Beyond The Lifestream

As Beyond the Lifestream is a Raid series, it will involve several dungeons based on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. This was confirmed by the use of key art from that game to promote the crossover. Beyond the Lifestream is being made in cooperation with the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation team, including director Naoki Hamaguchi, and Tetsuya Nomura.

Some of the loot/rewards that have been promised for Beyond the Lifestream include outfits based on Barret and Tifa, with the former having an optional gun-arm attachment. However, it’s only a cosmetic piece and doesn’t damage the enemy. The Tifa outfit will likely be massively popular, considering how many real-life cosplayers have donned it over the years.

One aspect of Final Fantasy 7 that’s coming to Final Fantasy 14 is the Gold Saucer, which will be changed to reflect the version from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. On October 28, a new Final Fantasy 7-themed minigame will be added to the Gold Saucer, called Keybound Brawler, where up to four players battle it out in typing challenges.

The big question is when Beyond the Lifestream will arrive in Evercold. Naoki Yoshida confirmed that it will arrive in the 8.1 patch, meaning it won’t be there when Evercold launches in January. Chances are it will arrive shortly before or after the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but that’s currently only listed for a Spring 2027 release, so it’s still up in the air.

Easily the most exciting part of the Beyond the Lifestream announcement was the moment when Yoshida played “One-Winged Angel”, as it signaled that Sephiroth would be the Raid Boss, most likely in his horrific Safer-Sephiroth form, where he’s transformed into the mockery of a celestial being. All Sephiroth’s forms will likely be faced in Beyond the Lifestream, from his regular sword-fighting pose to his final transformation.

Final Fantasy 14 Raids tend to feature lots of bosses, so Sephiroth won’t be facing the player alone. There’s a good chance the Turks will appear, along with Rufus Shinra. It’s just a shame that the Weapon monsters have previously appeared in different forms in previous Final Fantasy 14 events. However, there’s nothing stopping them from coming back with their Final Fantasy 7 Revelation designs.

The arrival of Final Fantasy 7 characters in Final Fantasy 14 marks the end of an era, as it was always the “Break In Case Of Emergency” moment for the game, and now that it’s happening, the biggest piece of Final Fantasy media will be spent. It’s still incredibly hype to think of the crossover finally happening, with Warriors of Light from across Eorzea already preparing for their epic showdown with Sephiroth.
