Honda ZR-V e:HEV Is Now Officially India’s Most Feature-Loaded Hybrid SUV

Honda Cars India has launched the ZR-V e:HEV in India at an introductory price of ₹47.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Deliveries begin today, July 25, 2026. The good news for the brand is that the initial response has been strong; the first two production batches allocated to India are already fully booked.

For now, the ZR-V e:HEV is being imported from Japan as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) as a new flagship SUV in India, sitting above the CR-V and City in the brand’s local hierarchy.

Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Powertrain And Efficiency

The ZR-V is powered by Honda’s 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which is paired with a dual-motor e:HEV hybrid system and an e-CVT automatic transmission. The powertrain produces a combined power of 184 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Honda claims 22.8 km/l fuel efficiency and a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds, which, in SUV terms, is quite good.

The hybrid system cycles automatically between EV, Hybrid, and Engine Drive modes depending on throttle input and the load. It prioritizes electric drive in city conditions for higher per-liter mileage and helps the petrol engine at cruising speeds.

Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Features And Safety

Inside, the ZR-V gets a 9-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay paired with a 12-speaker Bose audio system, along with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Other convenience features include wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, and regenerative braking paddle shifters.

Honda has also included a hands-free powered tailgate with kick sensor, which could come in handy while you’re approaching the tailgate with both hands loaded. Boot capacity reaches 1,313 liters with the rear seats folded.

Safety is handled by Honda SENSING (Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System), which bundles Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, and Road Departure Mitigation, alongside eight airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill descent control, and Vehicle Stability Assist.

What Honda is betting on is brand trust, the strength of its e:HEV system, which has earned a strong reputation globally for refinement and efficiency, and the appeal of a CBU import in a market that still attaches premium value to Japan-sourced vehicles. The sold-out first two batches suggest the bet is paying off early. However, what remains to be seen is how the brand sustains sales.

Usually, the case with CBUs is that brands fail to meet the demand quickly enough, and customers lose interest waiting for months before their units arrive. The Honda ZR-V e:HEV is an ambitious product, and I genuinely want the company to succeed with it, but the road to success depends on quick import times and eventual localization that brings down the price.
