Las Vegas woman charged in $84,000 Miami crypto theft previously accused in Strip robbery cases

A Las Vegas woman charged with stealing more than $84,000 in cryptocurrency and cash from a Miami man was previously suspected of robbing two men on the Las Vegas Strip in separate incidents, according to police records.

Southern Nevada court records show Cassandra Dianne Thompson, 35, has been the subject of more than two dozen prior arrests and citations in the Las Vegas Valley.

She is now charged in Miami-Dade County, Florida, with felony grand theft, money laundering, unlawful use of a communication device, and offense against computer users to defraud.

A Florida arrest warrant for Thompson indicates a man told the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office he met a woman on Dec. 11, 2024, at a bar in Miami. The man told authorities he had a drink with the woman and invited her back to his apartment. Once there, the woman asked the man if he would like her to make him a drink.

“The victim recalled feeling unwell after he was served the beverage prepared by the subject,” the investigator wrote. “He believed he lost consciousness or was so impaired that it caused him to be unresponsive and unable to recall events that occurred.”

He woke up hours later to discover his phone and $10,000 cash missing. The man was later able to track his phone to New York City. He found he’d been charged $15.99 for Wi-Fi service on a Spirit Airlines flight the same day, and that $1,225 of his money was transferred out of his account via Venmo. When he checked his cryptocurrency accounts he learned someone had attempted to steal $230,000 in digital assets from him, but the person was only able to obtain $72,841 in crypto.

The victim, police said, found a phone number used in the crypto transfer request, which police later connected to Thompson. The Venmo transfer and the Spirit Airlines transaction were also linked to Thompson or an alias that police said Thompson uses.

The victim later picked Thompson out of a photo lineup as the woman he was with that morning, police said.

Thompson has been arrested or cited at least 29 times in the Las Vegas Valley since 2014, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records. Those cases ranged from traffic violations to solicitation of prostitution, trespassing, disorderly conduct, destroying property and battery. In 2023, Thompson was charged in two separate cases in which men reported meeting a woman on the Las Vegas Strip, then being robbed in their hotel rooms.

According to Metropolitan Police Department arrest reports for Thompson, a tourist visiting Las Vegas in May 2023 reported meeting a woman at a bar at the Encore. He invited her to his hotel room where she made a drink for him.

“From that point, he could not recall the evening/morning,” police said.

The man found his room ransacked and nearly $25,000 in belongings, including a Rolex watch, were missing. The man suspected he’d been drugged. Police said a urinalysis later showed he had Alprazolam in his system even though he didn’t use drugs, police said.

“Based on my training and experience it is common for prostitutes to use some form of Alprazolam to sedate sex buyers in order to take personal property from the buyer,” police said.

Video surveillance of the woman led to the identification of Thompson as a suspect, police said. The man who was robbed picked Thompson out of a lineup, police said. After Thompson was charged and out of custody, the man’s place of employment received an anonymous email about him stating:

“He was in Vegas got involved with a prostitute made a false police report that’s going to come to light & everything will be recording during the trial & he will be posted all over the internet to expose his lies during the trial. Over face book Youtube Instagram you name it.”

A Clark County prosecutor later said in court filings that authorities suspected Thompson or someone on her behalf intended to blackmail or defame the victim to make him uncooperative in the case. The case was eventually dismissed, and court records do not detail an exact reason why, but court records do reference the fact that Thompson at the time had pleaded guilty to similar charges in District Court.

In that case, a tourist told Metro detectives he met a woman at Drai’s nightclub and invited her back to his hotel room at The Cromwell. He said he and the woman planned to have sex when she asked him to ingest a “rhino pill,” police said. The man put the pill in his mouth to give the impression he ingested it, but he secretly spit it out.

“He stated it later made him feel dizzy just by putting it in his mouth,” police said. “It is not confirmed whether or not the victim was drugged.”

The man realized later, while the woman was still in the room, that his jewelry and $1,000 in cash were missing. He confronted the woman, prompting her to pull out a knife and attempt to stab him, police said. He pried the knife away from the woman as hotel security arrived due to someone reporting screaming. Police arrested Thompson at the scene, describing her as extremely uncooperative. She was charged with attempted theft, assault and attempted robbery.

In September 2023, Thompson pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit theft and received a suspended sentence of 364 days in the Clark County Detention Center. She was placed on probation and later received a dishonorable discharge.
