Lotte E&C is deploying autonomous robots for cleaning work at construction sites to reduce workers’ burden of repetitive tasks and improve site operation efficiency.

Lotte E&C announced on the 29th that it has completed technology validation of an autonomous floor-cleaning robot and begun actual operation at the Block 4 apartment site of the Incheon Hyoseong District urban development project, in cooperation with robotics specialist TXR Robotics. The company plans to expand the application of the equipment to cleaning processes at sites nearing completion.

Until now, cleaning at construction sites has been done by workers who directly collect waste and remove dust from floors with vacuum cleaners. Large amounts of dust are generated during the process, requiring workers to wear dust masks even in summer, causing considerable discomfort and workload.

The newly introduced cleaning robot recognizes spatial structures and work zones based on a pre-loaded site map, then moves through designated areas on its own to clean. After removing general waste and dust, it returns to a charging station and automatically recharges its battery.

The robot is also equipped with a function to detect workers and obstacles. Using its built-in lighting, it can be operated unmanned without separate controls even at night when illumination is low. Lotte E&C believes that automating simple, repetitive tasks such as cleaning will allow workers to focus more on actual construction work, helping to improve productivity.

“The introduction of autonomous cleaning robots will reduce repetitive cleaning work for site workers and create an environment where they can concentrate on core processes,” a Lotte E&C official said. “We expect site work efficiency to improve further as well.”
