Minecraft Java Edition developers have increased the game’s system requirements.

Mojang Studios has officially updated the system requirements for Minecraft Java Edition. Over the course of its seventeen years, the project has grown significantly, adding new features and technical improvements. Previous configurations relied on outdated hardware and graphics technologies that no longer match the game’s current state. These changes are aimed at helping users find the optimal hardware for a stable gaming experience at 1080p resolution.
Minimum system requirements for Minecraft Java Edition:
- Performance Target: 1080p at 30 FPS with Fast graphics preset
- Operating system: 64-bit system
- Processor: 4-core processor
- Video card: with support Vulkan 1.3 and video memory from 2 GB VRAM
- RAM: 8 GB with discrete graphics card or 12 GB with integrated graphics
Recommended system requirements for Minecraft Java Edition:
- Performance Target: 1080p at 60 FPS with Fancy graphics preset
- Operating system: 64-bit system
- Processor: modern high-performance processor
- Video card: with support Vulkan 1.3 and video memory from 6 GB VRAM
- Memory: 16 GB
The developers noted that older PCs will still be able to run the client, but high frame rates and visual quality are no longer guaranteed on such hardware. This higher bar is due to the gradual phasing out of the legacy OpenGL graphics API and the transition to VulkanThe updated specifications have already gone live on the project’s official website.
