Moonshot AI to release Kimi K3 model as China looks to take on US dominance
According to a Bloomberg report, the model’s weights, which are used to guide artificial intelligence systems toward solutions, will be made public by the Beijing-based corporation on Monday. This will allow developers to freely download, modify, and host the technology in an effort to increase Moonshot’s AI’s user base.
Yang Zhilin, the company’s founder, has stated that he hopes to attract consumers by emphasising better availability and openness compared to rival US proprietary systems, Bloomberg reported further.

Similar to DeepSeek’s launch in early 2025, the K3 debut was interpreted as proof that Chinese businesses can compete with rivals who have full access to Nvidia Corp.’s AI accelerators on a lesser budget and with fewer cutting-edge resources.
Cloud AI computing providers who specialise in hosting third-party open models may see an increase in business as a result of Monday’s release. Because they are more reasonably priced and function similarly to US models, Made-in-China AI models—led by DeepSeek—have been increasingly popular worldwide in recent years.
As per another report, since K3’s release, Moonshot’s daily sales have increased at least sixfold. Riding this momentum, the Beijing-based business is looking for a new investment round at a $50 billion valuation in preparation for a possible IPO in Hong Kong later this year.
