Petrol Pump Owners Suspend Nationwide Strike After Talks With Government
The All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association has suspended its planned nationwide strike after holding successful negotiations with the federal government.
The decision was announced on Wednesday following talks between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and representatives of the petroleum dealers.
Following the agreement, petrol pump owners confirmed that fuel supplies will continue uninterrupted across Pakistan.
The Petroleum Dealers Association also endorsed the decision during a joint press conference, assuring the public that filling stations would remain open and continue normal operations.
Petroleum dealers had earlier announced plans to shut down filling stations nationwide for 24 hours, from 6:00 a.m. Thursday to 6:00 a.m. Friday, in protest against the government’s proposed daily fuel price revision mechanism.
Speaking after the meeting, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government would address dealers’ concerns regarding profit margins through consultations with all stakeholders.
He added that a summary proposing revised dealer margins would be presented to the federal cabinet for consideration and approval.
The minister also announced that another round of discussions with petroleum sector representatives will be held after two weeks to further review the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism.
With the strike now postponed, petrol pumps across Pakistan will continue operating normally while negotiations between the government and petroleum dealers continue.
