PM Orders Review of NITB Operations as Committee Begins Audit Process
A high-level committee constituted on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has begun reviewing the affairs and performance of the National Information Technology Board (NITB), with its inaugural meeting focusing on institutional reforms, operational efficiency, and implementation of key directives.
The first meeting of the committee was chaired by Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik and attended by Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja; the Secretary, Establishment Division; and the Chief Executive Officer of NITB, among other senior officials.
During the meeting, the committee briefed Dr. Malik on NITB’s overall performance, institutional affairs, and progress on measures aimed at improving the organization’s operational effectiveness.
Officials informed the committee about 27 directives issued to strengthen the board’s performance, enhance its operational framework, and improve institutional governance. The committee reviewed the progress made in implementing these recommendations and discussed strategies to accelerate reforms.
The meeting also examined proposals to further enhance NITB’s institutional capacity and streamline its administrative and operational functions to better support the government’s digital transformation agenda.
Participants deliberated on additional measures required to improve the board’s efficiency and ensure effective implementation of the prime minister’s directives.
The committee decided to convene another meeting in the coming days to conduct a more detailed review of progress made on the implementation of the 27 directives and to finalize the future course of action.
The review is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen public-sector digital institutions and improve governance, accountability, and service delivery through enhanced oversight and institutional reforms.
