Sony Has Shipped 95.3 Million PS5s Worldwide

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced during its latest financial report that the PS5 has shipped 95.3 million worldwide since its launch in November 2020.

The format holder sold 1.6 million PS5s during the three-month period ended June 30, which is down 0.9 million during the same period last year. Meanwhile, Sony revealed that there are 125 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network as of June 30, which represents an increase of two million from the previous year.

Elsewhere, the console maker revealed that PS5 and PS4 sold a combined total of 66.1 million software during the same three-month period, an increase of 0.2 million the same period last year. Six million of these games were first-party titles, a figure that is down 0.19 million during the last fiscal year — 82% of overall sales were digitally downloaded.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in major stock shortages that would last for over 18 months. During this time, many scalpers snapped up restocks as quickly as possible only to resell them at exorbitant prices on eBay.
