South Sudan has started developing a National Spectrum Management and 5G Strategy aimed at preparing the country for next-generation mobile technology and improved digital connectivity.

The National Communication Authority (NCA) announced the initiative on Thursday following a two-day inception workshop in Juba.

The workshop brought together representatives from the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services, the Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EA-RDIP), and technology experts to develop a roadmap for introducing 5G services.

During the workshop, experts discussed international best practices for 5G deployment, including planning methods, stakeholder engagement, governance structures, and the information needed to support the new technology.

The NCA said the strategy will not only focus on faster internet services but will also address cybersecurity, network quality, and creating an environment that attracts investment into the technology sector.

The authority said the initiative is expected to improve connectivity, support innovation, and contribute to economic growth across different sectors once 5G technology is introduced in South Sudan.

5G is the next generation of mobile network technology, designed to provide faster internet speeds, lower communication delays, and support advanced digital services.

The National Communication Authority said the development of the national strategy is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and integrate South Sudan into the regional digital economy.
