StrongestLayer Raises $4.1 Million to Expand Email Security Platform

San Francisco-based StrongestLayer has raised $4.1 million in new funding, bringing its total seed financing to $9.3 million as the company looks to capitalize on growing enterprise demand for email security tools that can detect sophisticated phishing and business email compromise attacks. The round was led by Canada’s Inovia Capital, with participation from existing investor Sorenson Capital, and new investors LaunchPod, Alumni Ventures and former Mandiant chief product officer Chris Key.

Founded in 2024, StrongestLayer develops software that evaluates incoming emails by analyzing the context and apparent intent of a message instead of relying solely on previously identified attack indicators. Its platform also assesses whether communications appear consistent with normal business activity before determining whether they represent fraud, phishing, or other forms of attacks. This approach, the company says, is designed to detect attacks that bypass traditional filters, including executive impersonation, vendor payment fraud, and adversary-in-the-middle campaigns that capture authenticated user sessions.

“Every generation of email security was built to recognize attacks it had seen before,” said Alan LeFort, co-founder and CEO of StrongestLayer. “We built a system that reasons about whether a message is legitimate and whether it intends harm,” he added.

LeFort is an enterprise software and cybersecurity executive with more than two decades of experience in the sector. Before co-founding StrongestLayer, he served as senior vice president and general manager of security awareness products at Proofpoint, where he expanded annual revenue from approximately $89 million to $180 million while growing the customer base to more than 6,000 organizations.

He has also previously held senior leadership roles at McAfee and Intel Security, managing product strategy and commercial operations across North America, Europe and the broader EMEA region, with responsibilities spanning advanced threat protection, behavioral analytics and insider risk.

StrongestLayer said customer deployments increased more than eightfold during the past year following its initial seed financing, and says the proceeds from the new investment will fund sales expansion and product development ahead of its planned Series A financing. It also plans to expand its publicly available threat research, including a framework categorizing dozens of email attack types.

Inovia Capital is a Canadian venture capital firm focused on software companies across the discovery, venture and growth stages. The firm manages more than $2.5 billion in assets and backs a technology company portfolio including BenchSci, bench iq, Atom Computing, Diamo, among others.

“StrongestLayer is demonstrating what becomes possible when AI is the foundation of the architecture rather than an enhancement layered onto older approaches,” said Taha Mubashir, partner at Inovia Capital.
