Syria inaugurates “Tech Town” innovation hub to support startups and digital economy
Damascus, July 13 (SANA) Syria inaugurated the “Tech Town” innovation hub in Damascus on Sunday, aiming to foster entrepreneurship, support startups, and accelerate the country’s digital transformation as part of efforts to build a knowledge-based economy.
The center, located in the Kafr Sousa district, was opened under the patronage of Communications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Salam Haykal and attended by Syrian Investment Authority Director Talal Hilali, along with government officials, private-sector representatives, and entrepreneurs.
“Tech Town” is designed to provide an integrated ecosystem for startups by offering office space, meeting rooms, event venues, and specialized laboratories for artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and virtual reality. The hub aims to connect entrepreneurs, investors, and experts while helping transform innovative ideas into market-ready projects.
Haykal and Hilali toured the facility’s seven operational sections, which include co-working spaces, startup facilities, and research and development centers intended to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of Syria’s digital economy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Haykal said the center reflects Syrians’ confidence in their capabilities and optimism for the future, highlighting the country’s talent and expertise to drive reconstruction and development.

He said the ministry would maintain a presence at the center to strengthen cooperation with the private sector and support entrepreneurial initiatives, describing the project as complementary to the government’s efforts and an example of the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing the digital economy and empowering young innovators.
Haykal added that the government is working to remove obstacles facing the communications and technology sector to help reintegrate Syria into the global technology ecosystem and expand access to digital services. He described the launch of “Tech Town” as the beginning of a new phase of technological innovation and digital development.
“Tech Town” Chief Executive Officer Sinan Hatahet said the project brings together people, ideas, and businesses within a single integrated ecosystem. He said the center will incubate startups from the earliest stages, help develop prototypes, and connect entrepreneurs with partners and investors.

Hatahet added that the center will also provide specialized training programs to develop national talent in line with labor market needs and prepare a new generation of engineers, developers, and entrepreneurs. Its advanced laboratories will support research and development while helping convert innovative ideas into products and technologies that contribute to Syria’s knowledge-based digital economy.
