Two more Ubisoft games set for next-gen updates later this year | Gaming | Entertainment
Hot off the heels of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, it looks like Ubisoft is gearing up to give some of its other older titles some love later this year. Fans of Ghost Recon can likely expect a brand new version of Ghost Recon Wildlands to release on current generation consoles later this year following early leaks at Ubisoft.
Earlier this week, an image of a new edition of Ghost Recon Wildlands found its way onto Reddit. Dubbed ‘Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition’, it’s thought that this re-release would include a resolution and framerate bump to the original 2017 game.
Ubisoft later acknowledged the leak, and while it didn’t give any details away, it did confirm that we’ll hear more news about the upcoming announcement very soon.
“It’s been a while Ghosts! We know some of you saw some updates, we’ll have more to say on the 6th of August when we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Ghost Recon. Intel coming soon,” reads a post from the official Ghost Recon X account.
The Ghost Recon series has lain dormant for the best part of the last decade with the last game, Breakpoint, launching in 2019. That game launched to middling reviews with a 56 score on Metacritic, while Wildlands earned a more respectable score of 70.
The third-person tactical shooters feature open worlds that lean on teamwork, with the entire story playable in four-player co-op.
Ubisoft promises that new Ghost Recon games are in the works, but with the next entry seemingly a way off yet, a re-release of Wildlands looks to be a way of tiding fans over for a few years longer.
Interestingly, it sounds like this isn’t the only older franchise that Ubisoft is looking to give a fresh update. According to Insider Gaming, Watch Dogs Legion is also expected to get an upgrade at some point in 2026.
That game launched back in 2020 and did get native versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with performance modes running at up to 60fps. Instead, it’s thought that we could get new content in the form of missions and cutscenes rather than a fresh coat of paint.
With likely a few years left until we see the likes of a new Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon game, these smaller updates to older titles will have to do.
