US Bans Import of Foreign-Made Humanoid Robots | Ratopati
Washington DC. The administration of US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that it will ban the import of new humanoid robots manufactured abroad into the United States, citing national security risks.
This ban will apply to humanoid robots as well as four-legged advanced robots. Most such robots are manufactured in China. China and the US are currently in intense competition in the development of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI).
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has also banned the import of power inverters used in data centers and solar energy systems. According to the FCC, these devices can also pose risks to the US economy.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said his agency has taken necessary steps to secure America’s critical supply chains.
BBC has contacted the Chinese embassy in Washington for comment on this matter.
Chinese technology companies are rapidly developing humanoid robots for factory and domestic use.
In addition, Chinese companies have started bringing their robots to market for businesses and the general public, ahead of American competitor companies like Tesla and Boston Dynamics.
