Martin Green, head of Care England, which represents independent providers, says technology is the “golden bullet” in an era of no money and increasing demand. “It was brought home to me by something that was going on in Japan, which was a robot that was helping people to go to the lavatory. Initially, I thought: ‘This is really inhumane,’ but the people were saying: ‘This is so much better for me. It’s available when I need it and it’s much more protective of my dignity,’” he says. “You could have somebody who has a hologram of their daughter saying: ‘Mum, have you had your tablets?’ Or: ‘Have you had a drink?’”
