Beast of Reincarnation pre-orders now live

Developer Game Freak and publisher Fictions have opened pre-orders for their action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation. The game launches globally on August 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It marks the first Game Freak title to appear on PlayStation and Xbox platforms.

Directed by Kota Furushima and built on Unreal Engine 5, Beast of Reincarnation is a major departure from Game Freak’s Pokémon work. Set in post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026, the game follows Emma the Sealer, an 18-year-old outcast with blight-manipulation powers, and her blighted canine companion, Koo, as they navigate a world where a mysterious blight has mutated flora and fauna. 

A shifting world

The world itself shifts in real time, with wasteland regions capable of transforming into dense forests mid-exploration, altering terrain and spawning new enemy threats. Previews have compared the game’s combat to Sekiro, NieR: Automata, and Ghost of Yotei, while its art direction and tone have drawn comparisons to Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke.

“One-person, one-dog” combat

Players control Emma’s real-time swordplay, dodges, and ranged attacks directly, using her plant-like hair to traverse broken terrain and strike enemies from above. Successful parries generate the resources needed to issue tactical commands to Koo, triggering companion abilities that blend real-time and turn-based mechanics. Exploring the blighted wilderness and defeating colossal bosses yields spirit stones and powers that expand skill trees for both characters, letting players build toward stealth, melee, or ranged playstyles. According to preview coverage from IGN, a full playthrough runs roughly 30 to 40 hours.

Pre-order editions

Pre-orders are live on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store, with physical copies available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S:

• Standard Edition ($59.99): Base game. Pre-orders include a Brown Shiba Skin for Koo and 30,000 Amber.
• Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99): Base game, Brown and Black Shiba Skins for Koo, the “Oni’s Hat” for Emma, Emma’s “Big Dipper” sword, 100,000 Amber, and in-game vegetable seedlings.
