Lancaster Catholic High School deactivates student email accounts after phishing attack
Lancaster Catholic High School in Lancaster County has temporarily deactivated student email accounts after phishing emails were sent from compromised student and staff accounts.
Phishing email subject lines
The school said the messages may contain subject lines such as “Together for a Memorable Evening,” “New Document Ready For Review,” “Fwd: Gean Atkinson shared ‘Timberview agee’ with you,” “New Document Ready For Review Now,” and “Birthday Bash Invitation.”
Several of the subject lines involve invitations, which scammers often use to lure victims, according to News 8 On Your Side.
What the community should do
The community is being advised not to open these emails, click on any links, download attachments, or respond to them.
The school said, “If you have already clicked a link or entered any personal information, please contact Lancaster Catholic immediately.”
Student email accounts deactivated
Due to the compromise, the school said it is temporarily deactivating student email accounts. “Once the issue has been fully addressed, students and families will be advised when accounts have been restored and will be provided any necessary instructions for regaining access,” the school said.
