Enginefall developer Red Rover Interactive is making layoffs

Red Rover Interactive is laying off an undisclosed number of employees across its offices in Newcastle, UK, and Oslo, Norway.

The news comes just three years after the studio, formed by group of industry veterans from Funcom, Bohemia Interactive, and Lockwood Publishing, broke cover and secured $5 million in financing to create a survival franchise.

In 2024, PUBG maker Krafton led a $15 million investment into the company to accelerate development on its debut project, Enginefall. Billed as a player-driven, crafting shooter set on a sprawling train, Enginefall is currently slated to launch in 2026 and has been wishlisted by over 300,000 users on Steam.

When approached for comment, a Red Rover Interactive spokesperson told Game Developer the company is undergoing a “restructuring process” that will lead to some roles being eliminated in Newcastle and Oslo. They said the cuts are being made to place the company on more “sustainable footing” as it commences the next phase of development on Enginefall.

“Our immediate focus is on supporting those impacted through this transition as best we can. We are working with a specialist recruiter to help team members find new opportunities and to provide as much support as possible during this process,” they added. “Enginefall wouldn’t be at the stage it is today without the talent, creativity and commitment of the whole team and for that we are deeply grateful.”

It’s currently unclear how many roles are at risk of redundancy.
