How to use Samsung DeX on Galaxy Z Fold8 Series
While Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Series is best known for unfolding from a smartphone into a tablet-sized display — with an 8-inch screen on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and a 7.6-inch screen on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 — the expanded workspace doesn’t stop there.
Samsung DeX lets you extend your Galaxy Z Fold8 mobile device into a complete desktop computing experience by connecting wirelessly to a smart display and pairing a keyboard and mouse. In short, it makes the mobile device a phone, tablet and PC all in one.
DeX also enables you to leave your laptop at home and connect to any display at your destination. Considering it’s the lightest, slimmest foldable from Samsung so far, Galaxy Z Fold8 Series eliminates the weight of a laptop.
Here’s how to use DeX on your Galaxy Z Fold8 Series:
The DeX platform is built into your Galaxy Z Fold8, no downloads required. It works wirelessly with any Miracast-enabled display, including Samsung smart monitors — or, for a larger canvas, Samsung smart TVs.
To get connected, first ensure Bluetooth is activated on your mobile device. Then, go back to Settings and tap “Connected devices” to open that menu. Click the Samsung DeX tab, opening a new menu, and tap “Connect wirelessly.” When the smart monitor or TV shows up on the list, click it. In the pop-up window that appears on the mobile device, tap “Start now.”
If your display does not support Miracast, you can still run DeX by connecting your Galaxy Z Fold8 to the monitor or TV via a USB-C-to-HDMI cable or adapter. Just connect, and DeX will launch immediately (if it doesn’t, make sure the “source” setting on your display matches the HDMI port you connected to with the cable).
For longer productivity sessions, you’ll probably want to pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. First, hold down the pairing button on your keyboard or mouse, and then open your Bluetooth settings on your Galaxy Z Fold8 to scan for the device. Later, the mobile device can remember your paired peripherals so connecting again becomes quick and easy.
One great advantage of DeX is that it’s not the same as mirroring your mobile device’s screen to a larger display.
