PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass’ best co-op action game just got a huge free update
PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass are both very divisive subscription services, with some even arguing the latter has ruined gaming.
Both have their merits and their flaws. For instance, PlayStation Plus Premium’s absurd pricing makes it hard to justify. Many have even cancelled their membership en masse after some of Sony’s recent controversial activity.
On the other hand, Xbox Game Pass’ ‘simplified’ subscription tiers can’t be purchased annually, resulting in more expenditure over time.
That’s why it’s important to get the most value for money out of these services whilst you’re subscribed to them, and that starts by playing one of the best co-op action games you may have never tried otherwise.
This sci-fi shooter is the most fun you’ll have killing aliens since old-school Halo
We’ve spoken about Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 before, but we’re talking about it again thanks to a brand-new update available today.
The Confrontation Update adds two new PvP arenas to the game, set on planets featured in the main story and the online PvE missions.
It also adds a new, intense enemy-type to the game, which will test the mettle of even seasoned space marines.
To help combat this new threat you’ll also be able to unlock six more weapons for your arsenal, like a scalding hot Power Sword, Melta-Gun, Executioner Axe and more. Three new customisable armour pieces will also be dropped.

Focus Entertainment
All of the above is now available in-game free-of-charge, which pairs nicely with the game already being on PlayStation Plus Extra and Xbox Game Pass Premium/Ultimate.
Bonus unlockables are available for those who own the current Season Pass, but unless you’re overly familiar with the various flavours of space marine you’re not missing out on anything. It’s all mostly cosmetic.
That’s the beauty of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and why you should be giving it a go if you’ve got a subscription to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass; it’s for everyone. Whether you’ve been part of the story since the tabletop game’s early days, or just getting acquainted with the new 11th Edition format, Space Marine 2 caters to both parties.

You can play the full campaign in single-player or with up to three players. It’ll take you on a bloody crusade across several worlds under siege as you rip-and-tear through colossal enemy hordes. You can then jump into the online multiplayer to design and customise your very own space marine.
All content added in previous free updates is available right from the start, so you’ve got plenty to play if you’re only just joining the fun.
Speaking from personal experience, it’s the most fun I’ve had with a sci-fi shooter since playing Halo 3 for the first time back in 2007. I knew very little about the grimdark universe when this series caught my eye, but since playing it I’ve become a regular tabletop player.
If you’ve already got an active subscription to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass there’s really no harm in giving it a go for yourself, especially this week when players will be hopping on for the new, free content.
