PS5 Game Publisher Opposes Sony’s Discontinuation of Discs
Sony’s decision to stop releasing new game discs from 2028 has sparked controversy. Now, publisher Serenity Forge has spoken out, believing that physical editions still play an important role.
In an interview with Game File, Serenity Forge founder and head Zhenghua Yang stated that boxed versions are not just another sales channel. They allow reaching an audience that digital distribution doesn’t always reach: customers in physical stores, those who buy games as gifts, and users from regions with slow internet. Physical copies also help preserve games as part of cultural heritage.
Yang emphasized that digital distribution has made games more accessible and has been one of the drivers of industry development. Both formats should coexist, complementing each other.
His comments come amid the industry’s shift towards digital sales.
