Rumour – New Perfect Dark Game And John Wick-Style IP Pitched By id Software Prior Xbox Layoffs

DOOM creator id Software reportedly pitched a new Perfect Dark game and a John Wick-style new IP prior to the mass layoffs that hit Xbox this week, according to GamesBeat.

The report states that id Software found itself vulnerable to the cuts as a result of it being in between major projects, having recently launched DOOM: The Dark Ages’s major expansion this week. GamesBeat claims that the studio had pitched a number of projects since The Dark Ages came out in 2025, including original IPs that were never given the green light.

Among the games pitched include a project known as Fury, which was put forward by DOOM series director Hugo Martin and was inspired by John Wick. This would have combined elements of science-fiction, noir, and Louisiana and Chicago mobsters based around a concept of Gun Fu. A second fresh IP was also pitched, which was a Western-style robot title focussing on survival.

Finally, id Software reportedly pitched a new game in the Perfect Dark franchise, after the next chapter in the series at The Initiative was shelved during a previous round of Xbox layoffs.

As previously reported today, a former VFX artist at id Software stated that the studio had been “nuked into the dirt” as a result of the mass layoffs, and has now been reduced to a “support size studio.” The Xbox cuts have resulted 3,200 people losing their jobs, with the initial layoffs taking part on Monday and the next wave planned for the next year.
