Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Leak Reveals Major CPU, GPU and AI Upgrades

A new leak has revealed several details about Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, giving an early look at what could be one of the company’s biggest flagship processor upgrades in recent years. The chip, internally known as SM8975, will power premium Android smartphones launching later this year.

According to the leaked information, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be built using TSMC’s advanced 2nm-class N2P manufacturing process. This marks Qualcomm’s first flagship chipset to move beyond the 3nm process. Although the new manufacturing technology is more efficient, the chip itself is reportedly larger than its predecessor. The die size will increase from around 126.2 mm² on the previous generation to approximately 134 mm², suggesting Qualcomm has added more hardware and features.

The processor will continue using Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU architecture. It will reportedly feature an eight-core configuration arranged in a 2+3+3 layout, including two prime cores, three performance cores, and three efficiency cores. While the leak does not mention clock speeds, the new architecture will deliver better performance and improved power efficiency.

Graphics performance also appears to receive a significant boost. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will include the new Adreno 850 GPU with 18MB of GMEM, an increase over the previous Adreno 840 graphics processor. The upgraded GPU will improve gaming performance and handle more demanding graphics workloads.

One of the most notable additions is the inclusion of two dedicated Matrix ALU blocks. These new hardware units will support a feature called AI Frame Fusion. The technology reportedly combines AI-powered frame generation with super-resolution upscaling to produce smoother gameplay while reducing power consumption. This feature could help mobile games achieve higher frame rates without placing as much strain on the device’s hardware.

The leak suggests these AI capabilities will be exclusive to the Pro version of the chipset. The standard SM8950, which will launch as a non-Pro model, will reportedly use an Adreno 845 GPU with 12MB of GMEM and will not include the dedicated AI hardware.

The company will also improve the Memory support. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will reportedly support both LPDDR5X and the newer LPDDR6 RAM, offering faster data speeds for compatible devices. Meanwhile, the standard version will support only LPDDR5X memory.

Qualcomm will also increase cache capacity. The new chip will feature a 16MB shared L2 cache along with an 8MB system-level cache, which could help improve overall responsiveness and application performance.

Because of its advanced technology and additional hardware, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will cost more to manufacture. As a result, it may appear only in a limited number of ultra-premium smartphones.

Qualcomm will officially introduce the new flagship chipset during its Snapdragon Summit, scheduled to take place in Maui from September 22 to September 24, 2026. Until then, these details remain unofficial, but the leak suggests the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro could deliver meaningful improvements in CPU performance, graphics, AI processing, and memory support for the next generation of high-end Android phones.
